Abstract 18 Series 2
A street scene.
This is the first of two abstract comics working with the same found image.
I wanted to try something different this time when making these comics. I wanted to go back to some of my earlier comics in this series and revisit my approach.
If you look at Abstract 3 the black paint has a ambiguous role in the comic. Sometimes it functions as a gutter sometimes as a panel around an image.
I think this offers a really interesting direction to explore.

This one is beautiful man. I love the physicality of the paint – the new method of scanning is really bringing out the tactile sense of the frames. And the image is really great too. Like memories that have begun to fade…
late spring…
the memory of blossoms
already fading

Actually for the moment I have given up on my scanning experiment, even one or two millimetres above the plate you lose definition in the image you have scanned. Yeah I am real excited about the two comics I have made from this found image, They are both really interesting.

Well, I think the way you’ve scanned this one is just perfect. Lovely work. I can see why you would be excited about these ones – they look amazing. And yeah – they do go back to your earlier ones. Man – the scanning is looking a lot better though!!!
