Isn’t it amazing how white space surrounded by dark streaks becomes light?

It is – I had a look after you said it and I see exactly what you mean – it is almost impossible to ‘read’ it any other way. The white page is never ‘nothing’ – but is always a matrix of light (it draws the light to it – pun intended). And then the black of the ink is not nothing either – it is the ‘mark’ (of Cain). And of course, there is a racial politic in black and white as well, in terms of dominant ideology.
